Text Box: Mary Robinson, Chair of the Council of Women World Leaders.
(b. 1944) The first female President of Ireland, serving from 1990 to 1997.  She is credited by many as having revitalized and liberalized a conservative political office.  In 1997, she became the United Nations’ High Commissioner for Human Rights. Prior to her presidency, Robinson was known as an academic, a barrister, and a member of the Irish Senate.  Since 2002, she has been the Honorary President of Oxfam International, a founding member and current Chair of both the Council of Women World Leaders and Realizing Rights: the Ethical Globalization Initiative.
